 A staggering statistic has come out in a report regarding the energy efficiency of small businesses in the UK, which sadly highlights their lack of appreciation of their responsibility towards climate change; plus their ignorance in helping themselves financially through huge savings that they could make. It is suggested that only 21%, or one in five of these small enterprises, have energy efficient equipment in their workplace, be that machinery, tools, materials or anything else.

Numbers wise that means that not far short of 4 million businesses are wasting vital resources and as a consequence they are quite literally allowing huge sums of money to go up in smoke. In analysis a remarkable 85% do not have lighting timers or motion sensor apparatus in their building. An identical percentage have so far failed to act on advice to change their metering system to the new smart boxes and a similar figure represents those that have not installed an energy monitor.

The most alarming piece of data that the report identified was an astonishing 97% of the financial services sector had no grasp of business energy efficiency.
